Apple has announced the discontinuation of its free photo storage service, "My Photo Stream," on July 26th, with the ability to store photos for users on the service ending on June 26th.
According to an official statement by Apple, all photos saved by "My Photo Stream" users will be synced with the "iCloud Photos" service by June 26th and will remain available for one month. During this period, users can download their photos to one of their devices.
Apple is encouraging users to rely on the "iCloud Photos" service, which will serve as a permanent alternative to the soon-to-be-closed service.
Apple has provided steps to download photos from "My Photo Stream" on iPhones, iPads, and iPod Touch devices. Users need to open the "Photos" app, select the "Albums" option, then access the "My Photo Stream" folder. From there, users can choose the photos they want to download to their device and tap "Save Image."
For Mac computers, users should open the "Photos" app, select "My Photo Stream," choose the desired photos to store, and drag and drop them into the Library storage.
Apple emphasizes the importance of enabling the "iCloud Photos" service on iPhones running iOS 8.3 or later, iPads running iPadOS 8.3 or later, and Mac computers running macOS X Yosemite or later.
Once iCloud Photos is enabled, users can easily browse their photos on iPhones, iPads, Macs, Apple TV, and the iCloud website. Additionally, users can sync photos on Windows computers using the iCloud for Windows service.
